We can't quite believe that True West, the legendary play by the equally legendary US playwright, has never appeared in the West End. Now the balance is being redressed, with a glittering production taking place in late 2018 and early 2019 at the Vaudeville theatre. No wonder the anticipation is already starting to rise in theatreland. You can look forward to a vivid, disturbing character study examining the dodgy relationship between screenwriter Austin and his bully of an older brother Lee, set in their mum's house in the steaming hot Californian desert.
When Lee turns up out of the blue and starts to bully his way into Austin's life in all sorts of unsavoury and infuriating ways, Austin isn't happy. When Lee tries to take over the scriptwriting deal Austin made with the producer Saul Kimmer, he's even unhappier. The pair are ultimately forced to cooperate to create a story, and it's make or break time for both of them. What happens when their roles, which they've held for a lifetime, are reversed? There's an even bigger treat in store because the two starring roles are played by Game of Thrones star Kit Harington, and the equally cool Johnny Flynn, the South African-born British musician, singer, songwriter and actor. We can't wait!
