Henry Horatio Hobson is a widower, the overbearing and often-drunk owner of a successful shoe shop. He spends most of his time drinking his life away at the Moonraker's pub while his three daughters Alice, Vicky and Maggie work in the shop, unpaid and desperate to escape his bullying clutches. When customer Mrs Hepworth demands to know who makes the marvellous boots she buys there for herself and her family, it turns out the talented Will Mossop is responsible. Hobson's daughter Maggie is a talented businesswoman, and when she decides she wants to marry Will, all hell lets loose. Will Hobson win the epic battle of wills that ensues?
The star of the show, as the horrid Hobson, is Martin Shaw, known and loved for his TV roles as Inspector George Gently, Judge John Deed and the CI5 cop in the 1970s hit series, The Professionals. Shaw also has excellent stage credentials, playing opposite the theatre legend Sir Laurence Olivier as well as the winner of a coveted Tony award for Broadway's An Ideal Husband. He has also played top roles to delighted audiences in the West End hits A Man for All Seasons and Twelve Angry Men. If you'd like to sample a play with 100 years of history behind it, don't miss this one.
