Di and Viv and Rose

According to The Guardian's critic Michael Billington, this play is impossible to dislike. And it has thrilled the critics so far. A hugely successful run at the Hampstead theatre has led Amelia Bullmore’s brilliant comedy, directed by the talented Anna Mackmin, straight to the West End. It has wowed audiences at every turn and Tamzin Outhwaite, who plays Di, is particularly impressive.

What's the story? It's 1984 and three young women meet at university. They love their new, exciting life together and their friendship lasts way beyond college, changing as they mature. Rose is an innocent despite her serial promiscuity. Viv is an earnest feminist with powerful career goals. Di is forced to return home to her parents after uni, where she feels she has to hide the fact she's a lesbian. The end result is wonderfully complex and textured, with some strong language which means the play isn't really suitable for children.

Di & Vi and Rose is both hilarious and heart-warming, selling out twice at the Hampstead theatre before making this West End transfer. Sharply observed, bubbly and great fun, the play explores whether the friends we make in our late teens can last a lifetime.
